Una delle cascate più belle d'Islanda è la Gullfoss nel Circolo d'Oro, quindi anche la più vicina a Raykjavik tra le varie cascate islandesi. Si getta con un doppio salto in un canyon abbastanza stretto e l'effetto nelle belle giornate di sole è davvero notevole.

Il parco nazionale di Þingvellir (Thingvellir) è un sito molto interessante sia dal punto di vista storico-culturale che da quello naturalistico: qui si riuniva l'Althing (l'antico parlamento islandese) e in questa valle è chiaramente visibile la spaccatura tra le placche continentali (ci si può anche immergere nel lago vicino e nuotare nella faglia).
